About Paul
A practical approach to financial leadership.
I’m Paul Cook, founder of The Kaizen CFO.
For over 25 years, I’ve worked inside industrial and manufacturing businesses, from the shop floor through to board level. During that time, I've seen financial clarity drive great success in many businesses.
The Kaizen CFO exists to bring that clarity by providing senior financial leadership that helps owners make confident, well-informed decisions.
Experience that’s close to the work
My career began in audits and corporate finance work for manufacturing businesses in the West Midlands, in which time I worked with businesses making copper tubes, cast iron stoves and drainage products, steel slitters, stockholders and cold-rolled sections. I’ve since worked as a CFO and Group CFO across owner-managed, private equity-backed, and listed businesses.
I’ve supported companies through growth, funding, operational change, and preparation for exit. What matters most to me is being close enough to the business to understand how it really operates — not advising from a distance.
Lean thinking, applied practically
Lean thinking runs through everything I do.
I apply Demand Flow Manufacturing (DFM) principles in operations, and Demand Flow in the Office (DFO) in finance and support functions. In simple terms, that means improving flow, reducing friction, and ensuring information arrives when it’s actually needed.
Finance should support good decisions: not slow them down.
Fractional, by design
Not every business needs a full-time CFO, nor can they afford one!
Fractional support provides access to senior financial leadership at the right level and the right time, without unnecessary overhead. My role is to strengthen financial foundations, support decision-making, and act as a sounding board when it matters most.
A calm, straightforward approach
I work in a measured, practical way: explaining why things matter, focusing on foundations first, and being honest about what will and won’t help.
If the support isn’t right for the business, I’ll say so.
Trusted experience.
A background shaped by working inside real businesses.
